Doug Walker – PhD, MDiv
President
A native of Miami, Florida, Dr. Douglas H. Walker earned his PhD in Systematic Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. This followed a 20-year career in the US Air Force, from which he retired in 1991 in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He has additional degrees from Auburn University (Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering), the University of Arkansas (Master of Science in Operations Management), and Beeson Divinity School (Master of Divinity).
Dr. Walker has taught at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Moody Bible College, and Legacy Bible College in Huntsville, Alabama.
Dr. Walker has been an active Christian since his junior high days and has been involved in numerous Christian ministries over the years. He and his wife attend Providence Baptist Church in northwest Huntsville.
Dr. Walker’s academic interests center on apologetics and cultural analysis. Believing that gender issues are the most pressing challenge to the church today, Dr. Walker wrote his doctoral dissertation in the field of gender studies. He also has an abiding interest in the relationship between science and religion.
Dr. Walker served as the president of Legacy Bible College from 2016 until Legacy’s dissolution in 2021. Burdened by the challenges that the evangelical community faces from an increasingly secular society, Dr. Walker founded Huntsville Theological Institute in 2021 for the purpose of promoting biblical literacy and theological reflection in the evangelical community.
Dr. Walker is married to the former Betsy Mathews of Athens, Alabama. They have two daughters who live in the Huntsville area and a son who lives in Michigan. Dr. and Mrs. Walker are proud grandparents to eight grandchildren, with the ninth on the way!
